Thaïsa Olivia Quartet

Thaïsa Olivia is a passionate jazz vocalist performing songs from the Great American Songbook with a warm and easy sound and presents them to the audience with a charming and theatrical flair. The repertoire includes songs written or performed by Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, George Gerswhin, Cy Coleman, Harold Arlen, Jerome Kern and Kurt Elling. Thaïsa is accompanied by an excellent trio of experienced musicians, all active in the international jazz scene. Occassionally trumpet player Kurt Weiss from New York extends the Thaïsa Olivia Quartet.

After touring the last three years through Germany as one of the 3 leading ladies of the close harmony trio The Croonettes, performing repertoire from the 20´s, 30´s and 30´s in an original Theater production, Thaïsa now has returned to Holland to concentrate fully on her own jazz quartet. She also has dedicated herself to composing her own songs with beautiful lyrics and sophisticated arrangements and a new CD is being recorded, including jazz standards and originals.

Thaïsa Olivia´s artistic background varies form music and dance to theater. At a very young age she started singing, dancing and acting and toured with the international musical theater group “Up with people” through the USA and Europe. She studied voice at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and continued her vocal education with Mildred Aikema, Deborah Carter, Adrienne West and Al Foster in New York. Thaïsa performed in several bands and participated in various musical projects, from pop and blues to musical theater and cabaret, but specially in jazz. She worked with Peter Beets, John Engels, Jos Machtel, Berend van de Berg, Willem Helbreker, Rob Agerbeek, Jaap Dekker, Rob Hoeke, Niels Tausk, Oene van Geel and many others. Further she performed regularly with the Thaïsa Olivia Quartet, Thaïsa Olivia Band, The Grand Piano Boogie Train, the Jaap Dekker Band, Hot Club de Frank and The Feenbrothers.
